Hypnosis Info for Parents

If you're a parent and you're not sure if hypnosis is an appropriate therapy for your children, this info might be helpful.

Hypnotherapy can be as beneficial for children as it is for adults. Indeed, many would say that it's even more effective for children, because they are so much more receptive and perhaps more open to positive suggestions.

Hypnosis is nothing to be afraid of. It's not going to take control of your child's mind. Rather, it's capable of giving them more control. It's really about re-learning, or seeing more clearly, what we already know, and controlling what we didn't think we could take control of.

You might ask, how is this possible?

By using our mind, and deliberately "day-dreaming", and really focusing on helping ourselves, we can learn to take control of our minds, and hence our feelings and attitudes.

It's nothing new!

Hypnosis has been around for a very long time. It's been used to help people overcome fears and phobias, bad habits, and even to control pain.

It's a safe, gentle and effective way to heal emotional pain, reduce stress, and effect positive changes in people's lives.

It's really just getting into a state of mind similar to a pleasant day-dream. When a person is in a hypnotic "trance", they may look as if they're asleep, but they're actually just very relaxed, concentrating, and using their imagination.

What does the Hypnotherapist actually do?

The hypnotherapist simply acts as a "coach" or "facilitator", guiding the person's day-dream.
The individual being hypnotized is always in control, and can enter or exit the hypnotic state whenever they choose.

Really, all hypnosis is "self-hypnosis". Anyone can learn it, and it's great for enhancing one's self-control to benefit them in many, many ways. By learning self-hypnosis, a person has a valuable life-long skill that is great for the body, the mind and the spirit.


Someone mentioned "Alpha State". What does this mean?

The human mind works at four different levels of "wave" activity. The waves are like any other waves, in that they vary in length. The longer they are, the less of them there are over a given time.

In the human mind, the levels are:
Level 1: Beta;
Level 2: ALPHA;
Level 3: Theta
Level 4: Delta

The stage known as ALPHA corresponds to the subconscious mind. Examples of ALPHA activity are: Hypnosis, meditation, relaxation, visualization, day-dreaming and imagining.

So, to summarise....

Hypnosis is simply the temporary "setting aside" of the conscious mind, and dealing with the subconscious mind directly. At no time will you actually be asleep. You'll be very, very relaxed both physically and mentally, but your subconscious mind will be very alert.

Children will love self-hypnosis, and it can help them in many, many areas of their lives, including concentration, sleep, study, self-confidence, and even issues like phobias and bedwetting.
